Our readings today continue to educate us on the Eucharist.
 
Jesus tells us in our Gospel that He is this Food that sustains us as He says, “I am the living bread that came down from heaven…and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”  This bread He is referring to is His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity that we receive.  This bread becomes the flesh of Christ Himself.
 
And in consuming Him, we receive every grace we need to live forever in eternal life.  We are strengthened in virtue and united more closely to Christ.  This is the Food that will fill us as we journey through this life.
 
Mistakenly we often take the Eucharist for granted.  Maybe we come to Mass to “check the box” instead of actively partaking in this intimate exchange or we receive Jesus in the Eucharist and then forget about Him the second we leave the church after Mass.
 
To receive all that God wants to give us in the Eucharist, we must do our part in being receptive to His grace and living out active discipleship in our day-to-day lives.
 
Let us approach the Lord acknowledging His Divine Presence and be open to all the graces He desires to pour out on us.  Then we must go forth, being attentive to the moments that the Holy Spirit is calling us to act as He acts — in total love and sacrifice.
 
The Eucharist affects our lives more than we can comprehend.  We are receiving God Himself.  Let us strive to receive Him reverently and with open hearts.

Thank you to all St. Albert the Great parishioners that have been generous in supporting the New Canadian Family ministry.  We are still waiting on Canadian Immigration to provide the final travel details for the family.  The wait has been longer than we anticipated and has been very challenging for the family.  They have shared with us a few scripture verses that provide them comfort and hope during their wait.  

The Lord is my portion, therefore I will wait for him.  Lamentations 3 : 24.
I will say to the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust" Psalm 91 : 2

Please continue to keep the family in your daily prayers.  As soon as we know the arrival date, we will communicate to the parish as there will be much to do to welcome them!

Hampers delivered:  45  (a 45% increase over June 2023)

Number of Adults served:  106

Number of Children served:  84

Cost of the hampers: $13,500 for food and $1890.00 in gift cards were given to these families to purchase meat and dairy for a total of $15,390.00. 

This weekend, Aug 10 & 11,  St Vincent de Paul members will be in the Narthex asking for donations so that we can continue to provide food hampers to the many families in need in our community.

The high cost of food, rent and utilities are leaving families with little to no money for food and they need our help.  Please consider donating this weekend so that we can purchase the groceries needed to fill the hampers in the summer months. 

Donations can be made by cash, cheque or e transfer at svdp.satg.donations@gmail.com.  Tax receipts will be issued in Feb 2025

Men of all ages in our community are suffering from a lack of social connection, fraternity, and support in carrying out their vocations as Catholic men in today’s world.

There are several groups in our parish already, and rightly so. This group aims to challenge men to get to know and support each other in leading authentically Catholic lives during these confusing times. Can we all just follow the rules and attend Mass, but is that enough? How can we truly live in the image and WILL of God?  How can we become authentic men while fulfilling our roles within our communities, families, and work?

You are invited to a Saturday morning video presentation followed by an opportunity to share and discuss the video with fellow men in our parish while enjoying coffee and donuts. 

The first session will be after the 9:00 am Holy Mass on September 14.

Thanks be to God, it appears that Our Lady of Lourdes church is still standing, though we cannot confirm the extent of internal damage as the town remains evacuated.

Overnight Eucharistic Adoration takes place on the first weekend of the month, from Saturday 8:00 PM to Sunday 8:00 AM.
